Keppel Bay Bridge rises as new icon at Singapore's southern waterfront

Singapore's new landmark bridge at the southern waterfront, Keppel Bay Bridge, was named and opened today by His Excellency S R Nathan, President of Singapore.

Keppel Bay Bridge was opened by the President in a grand light-up ceremony involving spectacular pyrotechnics across its 250-m span, witnessed by more than 300 guests gathered at the waterfront promenade at the Reflections at Keppel Bay show gallery.

"This new landmark bridge forms part of the masterplan and infrastructure to transform Keppel Bay into a premier waterfront precinct that integrates exclusive waterfront residences, a private marina and prime offices.

"...Through building value and premium into Keppel Bay, we are playing our part to enhance Singapore's live-work-play environment and contribute to the government's Tourism 2015 vision to transform the Sentosa – Harbourfront – Mount Faber Precinct into a world-class destination,” said Mr Teo Soon Hoe, Senior Executive Director and Group Finance Director of Keppel Corporation Limited.

Mr Teo also noted that the Bay area is transforming dramatically, with significant developments scheduled to be completed in the next three to four years.

On Keppel's participation in this vibrant waterfront hub, Mr Teo shared, "We will soon commence construction on Reflections at Keppel Bay, premier waterfront homes designed by Daniel Libeskind. His first residential showcase in Asia, Mr Libeskind's iconic Reflections has garnered international interest from home collectors and homebuyers, to designers, architects and engineers. The first phase of Reflections at Keppel Bay, comprising some 620 waterfront homes, has been sold out and we are looking to launch its second phase this year.”

Providing pedestrian and vehicular access, the bridge links Marina at Keppel Bay and future waterfront residences on Keppel Island to the mainland, completing a pleasant and seamless walking route covering more than three km round the Bay which stretches from Reflections at Keppel Bay, through Caribbean at Keppel Bay, around the Keppel Island and to Keppel Bay Tower at the Harbourfront, which is Keppel's headquarter building.

Keppel Bay Bridge, built at the cost of nearly $30 million, was jointly designed by DCA Architects Pte Ltd and TY Lin International Pte Ltd and constructed by Penta Ocean Construction Co. Ltd. It is one of two cable-stay bridges in Singapore and will be handed over to the Land Transport Authority.

At night, the bridge is artfully lit to become a vibrant nucleus to attractions surrounding the Bay. With programmable special effects lighting, the pylon and stay-cables are lit by spot-lights and its span by changing LED lights which can be tailored to suit the occasion.

Residents at Keppel Bay and visitors alike can look forward to an engaging pedestrian experience. Apart from panoramic scenic views of Sentosa Island and its upcoming Integrated Resort, the Harbourfront and Vivo City, Singapore Cruise Centre and Marina at Keppel Bay, pedestrians can gain quick insights into the rich historical surrounds through a series of informative plaques along the pedestrian walkway on the Bridge presented by the Keppel Group.

Come 19 January, the 10-Clipper fleet presently racing from Australia to Singapore in the Clipper Round-the-World Yacht Race will berth at Marina at Keppel Bay and a short walk across Keppel Bay Bridge will allow both Singaporeans and visitors alike to enjoy the colourful welcome celebrations and festivities.
